Exploring the Artistry and Music of Oddjun, Woolenciah, and Willa

Welcome Back #SoundLovers! We are excited to share these next up-and-coming artists with you as we had the opportunity to discuss their artistry, music, and upcoming events. Take a moment to meet Oddjun, Woolenciah, and Willa!

When asked about their beginnings in music, each member of the group shared unique insights into their musical journey.

Woolenciah revealed that his passion for music ignited at a young age, but it was during high school that he discovered his love for rap. Since then, he has immersed himself in the world of rap music, honing his skills and developing his unique style.

Oddjun, on the other hand, discovered his talent for singing early on, standing out among his friends and classmates during elementary and middle school. This early recognition of his musical abilities paved the way for his musical pursuits.

Willa's musical journey began with a diverse range of music influences in his youth. His interest in music blossomed organically as he integrated music into his daily life, gradually deepening his connection to the art form.

After discovering each artists' unique start into music, Oddjun, Woolenciah, and Willa were asked to describe the music they create, where they each agreed that it is a reflection of the raw emotions, capturing the essence of what each is feeling in the moment. Each note, each lyric, is a direct expression of their innermost thoughts and sentiments. The music each artist creates serves as a medium allowing them to convey a message that transcends words. It is a cathartic process, where each artist pours their heart and soul into every composition, infusing each piece with the intensity of their feelings. Through their music, they each aim to evoke an emotional response in the listener, to create a connection that goes beyond mere sound. It is a journey of self-discovery, and a way for them to explore and articulate the complex tapestry of emotions that make up the human experience.

When it comes to the creative process of producing and composing songs, each artist has their unique approach that reflects their individuality and style.

For Woolenciah, the process begins in a clean studio environment. He often starts by experimenting with the keyboard, letting his intuition guide him towards what captures his interest in that moment. Sometimes, he enters the studio with a specific idea in mind and then works on expanding and refining it further.

On the other hand, Oddjun's process is more spontaneous and less focused on tidying up the workspace. He dives in by humming melodies and creating beats on the spot, allowing the music to naturally evolve from the initial spark. If the studio is clean, he shifts his focus to introspection.

As for Willa, his creative journey starts with immersing himself in other music to absorb different vibes and influences. Drawing from the beats, tempo, and melodies that resonate with him, he shapes the beginning of his creative process. The interplay between these elements sets the foundation for his musical exploration and development.

Next we took a moment to talk to each artist one-on-one, beginning with Oddjun.

K Fuse: You released your latest single, “Dance With My Angel.” What inspired this song?

Oddjun: For "Dance With My Angel,” I am able to say the things I would say to a girl I saw for the first time. The lyrics express the way that I feel towards her, even seeing her for the first time, and the things I want to do with her. Expressing that she is an angel in my eyes.

K Fuse: What's the most challenging part of creating your own music?

Oddjun: I find the creative process of making music to be quite smooth overall, although it does encounter occasional slumps where inspiration seems to elude me momentarily. These moments, akin to writer's block, serve as temporary hurdles that he navigates with patience and perseverance.

K Fuse: While the year is almost over, what is your biggest goal that you want to reach by the end of 2024?

Oddjun: My biggest goal is to finish off this next performance well. Looking ahead to the future, I want to set my sights on a major milestone to achieve by the end of 2024 – delivering an outstanding performance that captivates my audience and leaves a lasting impression. With dedication and hard work, I aim to elevate my craft and showcase my musical talent with a memorable show.

K Fuse: As an upcoming artist, what do you want fans to think of when they hear your music?

Oddjun: I want to feel my emotions and the love that I have for what I do. I hope that my music serves as a conduit for fans to connect with their own emotions and experiences. By pouring my heart and soul into my art, I aspire to evoke a sense of empathy and understanding among listeners, allowing them to resonate with the passion and dedication I infuse into every musical creation. Through my music, I want to inspire others to embrace their feelings and find solace in the power of melody and lyrics.

Up next was Woolenciah.

K Fuse: Woolenciah, You appeared on Show Me The Money. What was that experience like for you? How do you feel your appearance on Show Me The Money evolved your creative process, or performances?

Woolenciah: It's called Show Me The Money, so it goes up and you have to improve each time, so it was a good experience.  I was able to appear in six sessions, and won the medal twice. This show gave me a new found confidence in myself and the music I create.

K Fuse: In 2020, you opened for DoK2. In 2023, you and Oddjun embarked on your first ever U.S. Tour. Can fans expect another tour soon? When?

Woolenciah: Yes, and  the experience of opening for DoK2 was electrifying, setting the stage for the successful U.S. Tour with Oddjun. Fans can definitely anticipate another tour in the future, but for now, I want to focus on my music and this series of events that we are hosting.

K Fuse: You recently released your new single, “AVENUE.” Can you walk us through your creative process for this song?

Woolenciah: ““AVENUE” was a unique creation process for me. Starting with an existing beat, I followed a more natural flow by humming and gradually crafting lyrics that harmonized seamlessly with the rhythm. This song emerged as one of the most organic and instinctive compositions, capturing a raw essence that resonates deeply with me as an artist -- and is the "AVENUE" that you know, today.

Rounding off our individual interview was Willa.

K Fuse: With your latest single, “NAWABARI,” what message did you want to convey to listeners?

Willa: I am from Busan, and I wanted to represent myself as a person from Busan and celebrate where I am from in my own way. The song "NAWABARI" goes deep into my roots, showcasing my pride for my hometown of Busan. Through the music, I aim to represent my upbringing and the cultural richness of my origins, connecting with listeners on a personal and emotional level.

K Fuse: What song has been the most memorable to create? Why?

Willa: It would have to be Nawabari because it featured a beloved friend, basically brother, who is also a musician, whom I love and admire.  Also, it represents me and where I come from. The creation of the song "NAWABARI" holds a special place in my heart as it allowed me to collaborate with my "brother," a fellow musician, adding a layer of personal connection and shared passion to the music-making process. The track not only symbolizes my deep affection for my "brother" and dear friend, but also serves as a reflection of my identity and the profound influence of my roots.

K Fuse: Are there any other genres you would like to explore?

Willa: Mamba and Techno!
