SUPER FANTASY Reimagines Neverland Through Captain Hook’s Eyes

The story of Peter Pan has been told countless times, but the characters surrounding Peter have their own histories beyond the familiar rivalry between hero and villain. SUPER FANTASY returns to Neverland with a release that follows Captain Hook’s past, his connection to Peter, and the choices that shape his future. Across three connected songs, Neverland approaches a familiar fairy tale through the perspective of a character whose story often begins and ends with his role as the antagonist.

SUPER FANTASY is a Japanese performance group that debuted in February 2017, building its identity around fairy tales, theatrical storytelling, music, and dance. The group’s concept divides its fictional world between THE HEROES and THE VILLAINS, with the members portraying characters through their releases and stage performances. Rather than separating the music from its narrative, SUPER FANTASY incorporates the characters and stories into its creative identity, drawing from recognizable fairy tales while developing its own interpretations. The group has continued to build that approach through original songs, theatrical performances, and projects that invite audiences into its fictional worlds. Its work also extends beyond the stage, with live-show MC segments and the SUPER FANTASY Official YouTube channel offering fans opportunities to get to know the members outside their character roles.

Released on October 3, Neverland follows a three-part narrative inspired by Peter Pan, with Captain Hook’s story taking center stage. The release opens with “Lostkids!!!!!!,” which looks back at James and Peter during their time together as Lost Kids. “Hook” moves forward to their reunion years later, while the title track follows James as he accepts Peter’s way of life and begins moving toward his own future. The sequence gives the three songs a shared timeline, following the character from his earlier connection to Peter through the events that eventually shape his identity as Captain Hook.

“Lostkids!!!!!!” begins before the rivalry most audiences associate with Peter Pan and Captain Hook. James and Peter’s time as Lost Kids provides the foundation for the story, placing their relationship before the characters become defined by the roles they occupy in the familiar tale. The choice to begin there shifts attention toward James’s earlier life and the experiences that connect him to Peter. Instead of introducing Captain Hook solely through the image of a pirate opposing Peter, the narrative reaches back to a period when the two characters shared a world. Their history becomes the starting point for understanding the events that follow, with James’s identity as Hook developing from a story that began long before their reunion.

The title “Lostkids!!!!!!” also places the focus on the characters’ shared past rather than on the familiar conflict between Peter and Hook. In Peter Pan, the Lost Boys are associated with Peter’s adventures in Neverland, but SUPER FANTASY’s storyline brings James into that part of the narrative and gives his connection to Peter a place in the sequence. The song establishes the background for the next chapter, where the characters meet again after years apart. With that history in place, the reunion carries a different context from a meeting between two characters who have always been enemies.

“Hook” moves the story into that later encounter. James and Peter reunite years after their time as Lost Kids, bringing their shared past into contact with the identities they have developed since then. The title points directly toward the character audiences recognize, but the song’s place in the storyline connects Captain Hook to the person he was before becoming associated with his familiar role. The distance between the two periods of their lives gives the reunion its place in the narrative, linking the experiences of their youth with the choices that have shaped them as adults. James is no longer simply part of Peter’s earlier world; he returns to it carrying the history of everything that has happened in the years between.

The story then moves into “Neverland,” which follows James as he accepts Peter’s way of life and begins looking toward his own future. After the reunion, the narrative turns toward what James does with the understanding he has gained. His story does not stop at the point where he reconnects with Peter, nor does it remain fixed on the identity associated with Captain Hook. Instead, the title track follows the next stage of his journey, bringing the three-song narrative toward a new direction for the character. The familiar setting of Neverland remains at the center, but the focus rests on James and the decisions that carry him forward.

Taken together, the three songs follow a clear progression: James and Peter’s time as Lost Kids, their reunion years later, and James’s movement toward a future of his own. The release also includes instrumental versions of all three tracks, allowing listeners to revisit the music without the vocal performances. The full sequence keeps the songs connected through the same characters and timeline, with each track occupying a specific point in James’s story rather than presenting three unrelated interpretations of the Peter Pan setting.

SUPER FANTASY’s approach to fairy tales also came through in its interview with K Fuse. When asked which song the group would recommend to someone discovering its music for the first time, RYOGA selected “FANTASY PARADE,” describing it as an introduction to the world SUPER FANTASY has created. He explained that the group’s concept centers on taking audiences into a fairy-tale world and guiding the story toward a happy ending, with the song’s lyrics and choreography both incorporating elements of that setting. RYOGA encouraged new listeners to begin with “FANTASY PARADE” before exploring the group’s other work, describing it as a starting point for becoming familiar with SUPER FANTASY’s creative direction.

The answer offers context for the way Neverland approaches its source material. SUPER FANTASY’s performances are built around characters, but the group’s interpretation of a story is expressed through both the songs and the movement accompanying them. RYOGA explained that the members embody their respective characters during performances because the group presents its stories through singing and dancing. For audiences who want to see the members outside those roles, he pointed toward the group’s live-show MC segments and its official YouTube channel. Those appearances provide a different setting for the members’ personalities, separate from the fictional characters they portray onstage.

NICK’s response to a question about instantly teleporting anywhere in the world offered another look at the members’ enthusiasm for the worlds behind their performances. He said he would like to visit Disney locations with the other members, get fully into character, and role-play scenes from the stories. He also imagined staging a theatrical-style performance or singing SUPER FANTASY songs together during the trip. His answer connected the group’s work to the experience of stepping into the stories themselves, with the members imagining what it would be like to explore those settings together outside their usual performance environment.

When asked which member was most likely to turn a five-minute conversation into a thirty-minute one, TOA named HIIRO. He described HIIRO as someone with extensive knowledge who can explain even minor subjects in considerable detail, including topics that might seem unnecessary to know so thoroughly. TOA also said he admires that quality, adding that curiosity and an interest in different subjects are positive traits. The response gives fans a glimpse of the members’ everyday dynamic, with TOA’s description focusing on a specific habit he has noticed in HIIRO rather than on the characters the group portrays.

HAKU spoke about the group’s annual anniversary concert, describing it as a once-a-year event comparable to a birthday celebration for SUPER FANTASY. He also explained that the group wants audiences to end each day feeling happy, with the hope that experiencing something extraordinary will leave them motivated to give their best again the following day. His answers connect the theatrical side of SUPER FANTASY’s work with the atmosphere the members hope to create during their performances, where the audience becomes part of the experience rather than simply watching the characters’ stories unfold.

Asked what he hopes fans will remember about SUPER FANTASY when they look back on the group years from now, HAKU answered, “The path we have walked together.” He added that the journey forms a single story and that it is still unfolding. The response places the group’s work within a longer timeline, with its releases and performances forming chapters in a story that continues as the members move forward together.

That idea of an ongoing story sits alongside the narrative at the center of Neverland. James’s time with Peter, their reunion, and his decision to move toward a future of his own all belong to a sequence that extends beyond one defining encounter. SUPER FANTASY revisits the familiar Peter Pan setting through that progression, giving Captain Hook a history that begins before his best-known role and continues after he reconnects with Peter.

With “Lostkids!!!!!!,” “Hook,” and “Neverland,” SUPER FANTASY follows James from his early connection with Peter through the reunion that brings their past back into focus and the choices that lead him toward his future. The release continues the group’s use of fairy-tale storytelling as the foundation for its music and performances, while the members’ interview responses offer a look at the people behind the characters. James’s story reaches a new chapter in Neverland, while SUPER FANTASY’s own story remains in progress.
