FIFTY FIFTY is officially ready to embrace a new direction, stepping away from the polished perfection often found in pop music. The group has made their much-anticipated return with their latest EP, Imperfect-I’mperfect, now available on all digital streaming platforms through Arista Records. This release marks an exciting and authentic chapter in their musical journey. With six tracks that don’t shy away from imperfections, the EP beautifully conveys the idea that our raw, unapologetic selves can be our most unique and complete versions. Moving beyond simple, bright idol optimism, the EP boldly tackles the real, heavy emotions that surface when the smiles fade, reminding us that it’s okay not to be perfectly happy all the time.

FIFTY FIFTY debuted in November 2022 and quickly made waves with their hit song “Cupid,” which achieved historic success on global charts and became a sensation on TikTok thanks to a viral dance trend. Unlike many K-pop groups that initially focus on the local market and Korean-language songs, FIFTY FIFTY has leaned more into Western pop sounds and English-language hooks, as heard in tracks like “SOS” and “Gravity.” Last year, they signed a U.S. record deal with Arista Records and released their comeback EP Love Tune. To date, the group has launched two EPs—The FIFTY and Love Tune—along with one LP, The Beginning. They also contributed a song to the soundtrack of the blockbuster film Barbie. Before this release, the group showcased their versatility with a well-received cover of Pink Floyd's “Wish You Were Here,” earning praises from fans and critics for their heartfelt reinterpretation. They recently spoke with Variety about the creative direction of their evolving artistry and the emotional themes that inspired this current project.
The EP immediately kicks things off with the pre-release single, “STARSTRUCK,” which drops a massive bomb on everything you thought you knew about the group's sound. Built around powerful electronic synths, distorted textures, vocal chops, and cyberpunk-inspired production, the track creates a retro-futuristic atmosphere that feels immersive, hypnotic, and emotionally charged. This experimental soundscape offers fans an early glimpse into the themes woven throughout the project while showcasing a bold new side of FIFTY FIFTY. From there, the tracklist pivots into the official focus track, “Like a Bubble.” This record balances out the dark energy of the opening track by leaning into a brighter and more playful energy through dreamy production, buoyant melodies, warm harmonies, and atmospheric instrumentation layered over a boom bap-inspired rhythm. At its heart, the song is about loving yourself exactly as you are — flaws and all — while capturing the freeing feeling of emotional weightlessness. Together, “STARSTRUCK” and “Like a Bubble” embody FIFTY FIFTY’s unmistakable sense of liberation and artistic growth.
The rest of the track list continues to explore these themes, taking listeners on an energetic, emotionally complex journey through the highs and lows of youth. “Took It Too Far” brilliantly blends groovy, dreamlike textures with playful tension, portraying a relationship that’s constantly at odds yet impossible to leave. Meanwhile, “Genie Magic” bursts with vibrant synths and infectious energy, celebrating the unexpected magic of love. Leaning into their introspective, soulful side, “PERFECT” combines dreamy R&B textures with subtle retro influences, capturing the excitement and nervousness of first love while delivering a bold confession through the group’s signature confidence. Closing out the EP, “Carry On” builds toward a soaring and emotional finale with expansive production, powerful chants, and dynamic vocal ad-libs that leave listeners with a lasting sense of comfort, healing, and hope.
Ultimately, Imperfect-I’mperfect succeeds because it doesn't try to sugarcoat the realities of growing up. From riveting dance-pop moments to softer introspective tracks, the project captures the complexities of youth, identity, emotional uncertainty, and personal growth while reinforcing FIFTY FIFTY’s place as one of the most exciting rising groups in global pop music. Turn down the noise, stream the full EP on your favorite digital platform, and let the music speak for itself.
