BIGBANG in New Jersey: A Night of Nostalgia, Energy, and 20 Years of Memories

There are concerts that entertain you for a few hours, and then there are concerts that take you back through an entire chapter of your life.
BIGBANG's September 11 performance at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, was one of those nights.
As the lights went down and thousands of VIPs filled the stadium, there was an overwhelming feeling that something special was about to happen. BIGBANG was back in the New York area, and for many fans, it had been more than a decade since the legendary group last performed in the region.
This wasn't just another stop on a concert tour. It was part of BIGBANG's celebration of 20 years, bringing together three of the group's members — G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung — for their XX : COSMOS World Tour.
And from the opening moments, it felt like a celebration of everything BIGBANG has meant to K-pop fans over the years.
The Moment the Stadium Exploded
When the opening notes of “Fantastic Baby” hit, the stadium erupted.
It was one of those moments where you could feel the excitement physically. Fans who had grown up listening to BIGBANG's music were suddenly hearing those songs live again, surrounded by thousands of people who knew every beat, every lyric, and every dance move.

The setlist moved through different eras of BIGBANG's career, including “Hands Up,” “Tonight,” “Blue,” “Loser,” “If You,” “Bad Boy,” “Bae Bae,” “Haru Haru,” and “Lies.”
Hearing these songs in a massive stadium setting made them feel bigger than ever.
For me, “Haru Haru” was one of the moments that really stood out. It's a song that carries so much history for longtime fans, and hearing it performed live brought back memories of the era when BIGBANG was helping define what K-pop could become internationally.
Three Members, One BIGBANG
There is no denying that BIGBANG's history is complicated, and the current lineup is different from the group many longtime fans remember.
But rather than allowing that history to overshadow the night, the concert embraced the present.
G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung stood together as a three-member BIGBANG, each bringing something different to the stage.
Daesung brought his unmistakable energy and humor.
Taeyang delivered the smooth vocals and powerful performances that have defined his solo career.
G-Dragon brought the unpredictable charisma and artistic personality that has made him one of K-pop's most recognizable figures.
Seeing the three of them together again was powerful because it wasn't simply about recreating the past. It was about seeing where these artists are now — and celebrating how far they have come.
The Solo Performances
The concert also gave each member an opportunity to step into the spotlight individually.
Daesung performed songs including “Universe,” “Wings,” “HANDO-CHOGUA,” and “Look at Me, Gwisun.”
Taeyang brought his solo energy to the stage with “BAD,” “RINGA LINGA,” and “LIVE FAST DIE SLOW.”
And G-Dragon delivered “POWER,” “Crayon,” and “Crooked.”
These performances were a reminder that BIGBANG isn't simply a group of three talented performers. Each member has developed a distinct identity and career outside the group.
Yet when they came back together, that individual energy transformed into something bigger.
The Hits Kept Coming
Just when it felt like the concert had already reached its peak, BIGBANG continued to pull songs from its enormous catalog.
“Bang Bang Bang,” “Stupid Liar,” “Sober,” and “We Like 2 Party” kept the stadium moving.
Then came the encore.
“My Heaven,” “Sunset Glow,” “Last Farewell,” “Feeling,” “Flower Road,” and “Still Life” brought the night toward its emotional conclusion.
Ending with “Still Life” felt particularly fitting, especially when TOP's part came on.
The song itself carries a sense of reflection and moving forward, making it an emotional way to close a concert celebrating two decades of BIGBANG's history.
More Than Nostalgia
The easiest way to describe this concert would be to call it nostalgic.
But I think it was more than that.
Yes, there was nostalgia everywhere. You could see it in the fans singing along to songs that were released years ago. You could feel it when an old favorite began playing and the entire stadium immediately recognized it.
But there was also something incredibly present about the night.
These weren't simply memories being replayed.
They were being created again.
Watching G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung perform together in 2026 made it clear that BIGBANG's music has survived different generations, changing trends, and the passage of time.
Twenty years later, those songs still have the ability to bring thousands of people together.
The VIPs Made the Night Special
Of course, a BIGBANG concert wouldn't be complete without the fans.
The crowd at MetLife Stadium brought an incredible amount of energy. Whether it was singing along to the biggest hits, waving light sticks, dancing, or simply screaming when the members appeared on stage, the connection between BIGBANG and their VIPs was impossible to miss.
Looking around the stadium, it was clear that people weren't there simply because BIGBANG was popular.
They were there because the group had been part of their lives.
For some fans, BIGBANG may have been the group that introduced them to K-pop. For others, the music may have been part of their teenage years, college years, friendships, or important memories.
That is the kind of connection that cannot be manufactured.
My Final Thoughts
Leaving MetLife Stadium that night, I couldn't help but think about how much had changed since BIGBANG first entered the K-pop scene.
Twenty years is a long time.
Music changes. Fans grow older. Artists evolve. Life moves forward.
And yet, when those familiar songs started playing, it felt like time briefly stood still.
BIGBANG's September 11 concert was perfect because it recreated the past exactly as fans remembered it.
It was special because it showed that BIGBANG still has the ability to make the past feel alive while creating something new in the present.
For me, the night was a reminder of why live music is so powerful. You can listen to a song hundreds of times through headphones, but hearing thousands of people sing it together in a stadium is something completely different.
BIGBANG came to New Jersey to celebrate 20 years.
They didn't just celebrate their history.
They gave their VIPs another memory to carry forward.
And after 20 years, that may be BIGBANG's greatest legacy of all.
