The Shops at Skyview in Flushing, Queens, is bringing something seriously special to the city: a four-part immersive event series called “Skyview High” — and it’s got everything from K-pop fandom fever to art, food, and fashion workshops, all topped off with a guest appearance by none other than Kang Daniel. Let’s be clear — this isn’t just another mall event. Skyview High is built like a full-fledged school experience for teens and young adults who live and breathe Asian culture. Think of it as a summer school you want to attend — but instead of tests, you’ll be earning “credits” through creative activities that could land you a ticket to an exclusive fan-only Commencement Day event with Kang Daniel himself.

“We’re inviting our community to rediscover the magic of growing up through the lens of Asian culture,” says Wesley Sin, regional marketing manager for Perform Properties, which manages The Shops at Skyview. “Skyview High blends nostalgia, community pride, and creative celebration all in one. And bringing Kang Daniel to celebrate our graduates? That’s the cherry on top.”

đŸŽ¶ School’s in Session: The Skyview High Class Schedule

📚 Cultural Electives

đŸ—“ïž Thursday, July 24 | 🕔 5–7 PM | 📍 Level 4

Skyview High opens its doors with the ultimate throwback-meets-modern block party. “Cultural Electives” is a kinetic celebration of Asian performance, identity, and style. Guests will be treated to a high-energy K-pop dance performance that’ll set the tone for the evening, followed by a thrilling Taekwondo demonstration showcasing the skill and discipline of this traditional Korean martial art. Throughout the event, a live DJ will spin some of the hottest tracks in K-pop, transforming Level 4 into a makeshift concert venue where fans can sing, dance, and lose themselves in the music.

But the action doesn’t stop at performances. There’s a K-pop Dance Cover Challenge where guests can post videos of themselves and their friends dancing to their favorite idol hits on Instagram using the hashtag #SkyviewHigh. Five finalist groups will be chosen to perform live at the Commencement event alongside Kang Daniel. Another crowd favorite is expected to be the Student ID Uniform Challenge, where attendees come dressed in their best takes on the classic school uniform look, snap their photos at a student ID-style photo booth, and let the public vote online. Eight of the most stylish contestants will earn their moment on stage during Commencement Day. To sweeten the deal, winners of both competitions will walk away with Skyview gift certificates — and unforgettable bragging rights.

🎹 Creative Studio

đŸ—“ïž Sunday, August 3 | 🕑 2–5 PM | 📍 Level 4

Art class gets a major upgrade during Skyview High’s second event, “Creative Studio.” This is where fandom meets fine art. Fans of Kang Daniel are invited to contribute to a massive, collaborative portrait of the idol, guided by local Asian American artists. The three fans who bring the most creativity and passion to the canvas will be invited to join Kang Daniel on stage during Commencement Day.

Guests can also personalize their shopping finds with a custom twist. Any t-shirt or tote bag purchased from Skyview retailers can be hand-painted on site by featured local artists — giving attendees a one-of-a-kind fashion piece with cultural flair. Beauty lovers can indulge in a Japanese skincare and makeover demo, get a hands-on experience at a Japanese-style DIY patch station, and sample Korean beauty products from some of the top brands in the game. Plus, Dolce & Gabbana Beauty will be on hand with a summer-exclusive perfume bottle customization bar, perfect for those who want to leave with something as unique as their Skyview High experience.

đŸ± Culinary Lab

đŸ—“ïž Thursday, August 14 | 🕔 5–7 PM | 📍 Level 4

Forget cafeteria food — Culinary Lab takes taste buds on a full tour across Asia. During this flavorful hands-on event, guests will learn how to fold, stuff, and steam authentic Chinese dim sum, followed by a Southeast Asian-style meal prep demo that spotlights healthy, delicious cuisine perfect for summer. While exploring Asian snack and drink tasting stations scattered throughout Level 4, attendees can experience the sweet, salty, spicy, and savory sides of cultures that have influenced global food trends for decades.

One of the most buzzed-about parts of the day is the Kawaii Lunchbox Competition. Participants are encouraged to design their own creative bento-style lunchboxes, snap a photo or video of the results, and post it to Instagram with the official hashtag. Three finalists will be invited to present their creations on site during the event, and the grand prize winner will earn a $300 Skyview gift card — along with a place on stage during Commencement with Kang Daniel.

🎓 Commencement Day

đŸ—“ïž Saturday, August 30 | ⏰ Time TBA | 📍 Secret Location (Invite Only)

The grand finale of Skyview High is an exclusive, by-invitation-only Commencement event — and it’s what everyone will be working toward all summer long. To qualify for a chance to attend, fans must earn 10 “credits” by attending and participating in the three Skyview High events prior. These credits are logged through Skyview’s official Attendance Report app, and on August 18, 101 lucky ticket winners will be randomly selected and notified by email.

What’s waiting for them? A private, unforgettable experience with K-pop superstar Kang Daniel — complete with a fan meet-and-greet, surprise activities, and a celebration of the fans who earned their way to the top. In true Skyview High fashion, Daniel will appear in a signature school uniform, bringing his signature charm and fan connection to life in the most nostalgic and stylish way possible. This isn't just a meet-and-greet — it’s a graduation party for the most devoted fans in the building.

“Seeing fans in their most creative uniforms, celebrating together, and honoring Asian culture — that’s exactly the kind of energy I love,” says Kang Daniel. “I can’t wait to experience this day with my New York DANITY.”

✏ Extra Credit: Community School Supply Drive

From July 24 through August 30, The Shops at Skyview will also be giving back through a charitable school supply drive. Visitors are encouraged to bring new, unopened school supplies and place them in the yellow Skyview High locker located at the center’s main entrance. Donations will go to local organizations helping students in need as they head back to school this fall.
