VIBY Finds TOMO in “Gotcha” Ahead of Their Nippon Budokan Debut Showcase

Every fan remembers discovering an artist for the first time. Sometimes it is a song that happens to play at the right moment. Sometimes it is a performance that makes someone stop scrolling. And sometimes, it is simply finding a group and realizing that something about them feels familiar. For VIBY, that feeling of finding one another is at the center of “Gotcha,” their third digital single and a summer song made especially for their fan community, TOMO. Released August 5 ahead of their VIBY DEBUT SHOWCASE at Nippon Budokan on August 31, the song celebrates the connection between VIBY and the fans who have chosen to take this journey with them.

VIBY is a five-member Japanese boy group made up of IO, RENKI, AKITO, RYOHA and KOTARO. The members did not grow up together with the same dream of becoming a group, either. Each came from a different place and background before a foreign producer brought them together, giving five teenagers the chance to build something they could not have created on their own. Their concept is centered around the idea of a “voyage,” which makes their story especially fitting. Rather than beginning with a clear destination, VIBY is learning where their journey will take them as they move forward together. IO, born in Kyoto, RENKI from Hyogo, AKITO and KOTARO from Hokkaido, and RYOHA from Ishikawa each bring their own experiences into the group, but “Gotcha” shows how those different paths eventually led them to the same place.

That journey officially began on June 24, 2026, when VIBY debuted with their first CD single, “Miracle: The First Light.” Their story, however, had already started reaching listeners before their official debut. Their pre-debut track “恋におちたら” surpassed 10 million views on its music video, giving fans an early look at the five members and the music they were preparing to share. Now, only a little more than two months after their debut, VIBY is already preparing to take the stage at Nippon Budokan for their first showcase, “VIBY LAND.” It is a major step for a group still at the beginning of its career, and “Gotcha” feels like the perfect song to carry them into it because the track is ultimately about the people who have been part of that journey.

The title itself is a playful way of describing that feeling. “Gotcha” is a familiar English expression that can mean “I found you” or “I’ve got you,” but VIBY also took inspiration from the excitement of a gachapon capsule toy. There is always a little surprise when the capsule drops, because you never know exactly what you are going to get. Sometimes the result is something you were hoping for, and sometimes it is something you never expected to find. For VIBY, that idea became a way to describe how the five members came together and how they eventually found TOMO. What started as separate journeys became one shared story, and “Gotcha” is their way of celebrating that connection.

The song itself keeps that message light and easy to enjoy. Built around VIBY’s “Feel Good Pop” sound, “Gotcha” combines a dance beat with catchy melodies, refreshing guitar sounds and bright synths. It has the kind of energy that makes it easy to picture playing during a summer drive, a day out with friends or a concert where everyone is singing along together. At the same time, the lyrics give the song a more personal meaning for the members. This is not simply a song telling fans that they are appreciated. It is a song about how much the members value the fact that their paths crossed in the first place.

That connection comes to life in the music video, which takes VIBY into a world created specifically for their story. Filmed at Hokkaido Greenland, the video is set inside the newly opened amusement park known as “VIBY LAND.” The five members begin their day with a mission to find “TOMO the puppy,” sending them on an adventure through the park as they try to figure out where their search will lead. What begins as a playful mission gradually becomes a story about finding someone who was waiting for them all along, bringing the meaning of the song into the video without losing the fun that makes VIBY’s concept so approachable.

The amusement park setting also gives fans a chance to see another side of the group. Instead of placing the members in a dramatic or overly serious storyline, “Gotcha” lets VIBY enjoy the moment. There is a sense of play throughout the video that matches the song’s upbeat sound, while the search for TOMO gives the members and their fans a shared story to follow. By the end, the journey leads to a simple promise between VIBY and TOMO: that the connection they have found is one they want to carry with them moving forward.

For IO, “Gotcha” represents both sides of VIBY’s journey. The members found one another, but they also found TOMO along the way. IO described the track as “a fan song from all of us in VIBY to everyone in TOMO,” explaining that it is their way of saying thank you for finding each member and for allowing the five of them to find each other as a group. The lyric “I finally found you, out of everyone” captures that feeling, while also looking toward the future and the hope that VIBY and TOMO will continue walking this path together.

That idea becomes even more meaningful when looking at how quickly VIBY’s story has moved since their debut. The group officially introduced themselves in June, but their next major milestone is already waiting at Nippon Budokan. Their August 31 showcase, “VIBY LAND,” will take place just over two months after their debut, giving fans a chance to experience the world they have been creating in a much bigger way. “Gotcha” arrives at exactly the right moment, giving TOMO a song they can share with VIBY as the group prepares to step onto the stage for one of the biggest moments of their young career.

For fans who have been following VIBY since their pre-debut days, the song feels like a thank you for being there before the group had even officially begun. For newer fans, it is an invitation to understand what VIBY is all about. The members are still at the beginning of their voyage, and there is plenty ahead for them to discover. But that is part of what makes “Gotcha” so fitting. It does not try to suggest that VIBY already knows exactly where the road will take them. Instead, it celebrates the people they have found along the way and the excitement of seeing where they will go next.
