XG Finds Comfort in the Unknown with Upcoming Single, “DEPENDS”

XG returns with “DEPENDS,” a new digital single released November 6 and the group's first new music since January's THE CORE - 核. Rather than arriving with another large statement, the song takes a more reflective approach, built around the idea that not every question about identity, growth, or the future has an immediate answer.

JURIN, CHISA, HINATA, HARVEY, JURIA, MAYA, and COCONA officially debuted as XG on March 18, 2022, with “Tippy Toes,” establishing a group that has continued moving between hip-hop, R&B, pop, and electronic influences throughout its catalog. The members followed their debut with releases including “MASCARA,” “Shooting Star,” “LEFT RIGHT,” and “WOKE UP,” before expanding into the 2024 mini-album AWE and 2026's full-length THE CORE - 核. Since debut, XG has also grown considerably as a live act, performing across international festivals and launching its XG WORLD TOUR: THE CORE, which has taken the group through Asia, Europe, Australia, and North America. In 2026 alone, XG appeared at Capital's Summertime Ball, Fuji Rock Festival, Head in the Clouds Los Angeles, and Rock In Japan Festival, where the group performed with a full band for the first time at the festival. Alongside the group's work, the seven members have also developed individual connections to fashion and culture through appearances and collaborations involving SPUR, ELLE JAPON, Numéro TOKYO, Dior, and Gucci.

“DEPENDS” immediately stands apart through its lyrics, particularly in lines such as “I still don't know myself” and “I'm still searching.” Instead of presenting self-discovery as something that has already been completed, the song stays inside the uncertainty of figuring things out as they happen. “Depends” leaves the answer open, allowing circumstances, time, and perspective to change what comes next rather than forcing the members into a definitive statement about who they are or where they are going. XG has built its reputation around strong performance, rap-heavy moments, sharp production, and songs that can carry a significant amount of attitude. However, “DEPENDS” gets its appeal from being less concerned with proving something and more comfortable sitting with a question, making this release feel personal without becoming overly dramatic, allowing the members to acknowledge that knowing yourself is not necessarily a finished process.

The timing becomes particularly interesting because “DEPENDS” arrives during a period of change for XGALX as well. On September 13, the company's website and social media accounts went blank without an immediate explanation, eventually leading into the announcement of a complete rebrand. XGALX introduced the new direction with the tagline “Genuine Art Lives. Lives Create Culture” and said the changes would extend across music, management, and marketing while retaining key staff members. That context also makes the song's smaller, more inward focus work. The members have already moved far beyond the world they introduced through “Tippy Toes,” performing on major festival stages, touring internationally, developing individual creative and fashion opportunities, and continuing to expand what an XG performance can look like. “DEPENDS” instead turns inward, asking a much simpler question about what happens when everything around you is changing while you are still trying to understand yourself.

“DEPENDS” finds XG in a quieter space, using uncertainty not as a lack of direction but as part of the process of continuing to grow. With the song arriving alongside XGALX's rebrand and during the ongoing THE CORE tour, its timing adds another layer without overwhelming the music itself. More than a declaration of what comes next, “DEPENDS” leaves the question open—and lets the answer depend on what happens next.
