BE:FIRST Shows Their ‘GRIT’ In NYC, During First-Ever World Tour

BE:FIRST, the seven member J-Pop group has embarked on their first-ever world tour.  Junon, Leo, Ryoki, Sota, Manato, Shunto, and Ryuhei became BE:FIRST through the audition program BSMG AUDITION - THE FIRST 21, in 2021.  On Sunday night they brought their unmatched stage presence to a packed crowd at NYC’s Webster Hall. 

BESTYs, as their fans are affectionately called, started lining up at Noon the day before to solidify their spot on the barricade.  They had the floor shaking during the high energy performances that featured angsty rapping and soulful vocals from the members.

They kicked off the show with ‘Mainstream’ and ‘Spacecraft’, and included two unit stages, with the rappers and the vocalists each showcasing their skills.  Later in the show they performed their new single ‘GRIT’ for the first time in the U.S. before ending their show with the bright ‘Blissful’.  Their action-packed setlist displayed their range of musical influences including hip hop, R&B and electronic sounds.  The songs coupled with the graphics that featured futuristic vibes and graffiti was perfect for the historic East Village venue.

BE:FIRST’s full out dance routines were on another level.  Could it have been the documentary film crew that was on hand to capture the show, or maybe they were feeding off of energy from the BESTYs in the crowd. Their choreography incorporated moves from step, hip-hop, popping, as well as plenty of solos that thrilled the fans, who ranged in age from infants to grandparents that traveled from California, Canada, Japan, all to see the septuplet on their inaugural tour in the States.

This performance marks the first time BE:FIRST has been back in the Big Apple since they filmed a music video here last year.  They told the captive crowd that they had been able to see some of the city, checking out Yankee Stadium and squeezing in some shopping.

In the nearly 90 minute performance, there was rarely a moment, for the crowd or the members, to rest.  They kept the energy up with quick transitions between songs and only two ‘ments, where they conveyed their gratitude to the fans for supporting them since their debut.

‘Who is -BE:FIRST?-’ was an amazing starting point for the group outside of Japan.  While this tour didn’t feature any VCRs or outfit changes, we did witness unparalleled stamina, with their second-to-none dance skills accompanying their live vocals.  The set had something for everyone.  Songs with a fresh feel and more intense songs that will have the BESTYs turning the volume all the way up! Fans should look forward to what is still to come from BE:FIRST, as the performances that we were treated to tonight, are definitely ready for bigger stages.
