KaptureCon Debuts in D.C. with a Weekend to Remember

On May 31, 2025, the K-pop community found its new favorite gathering place as KaptureCon officially launched its first-ever event at the historic National Press Building in Washington, D.C. With a full day of programming, dance, vendors, fan meets, and a post-concert to cap it all off, KaptureCon proved it’s more than a convention—it’s a celebration of everything K-culture.

The Press Building transformed into a mini multiverse of K-pop joy, with each room offering something different for fans to explore.

One room exploded with energy during the Random Dance Play—a K-pop staple where strangers become instant friends, cheering each other on as they nail choreo to their favorite songs. The joy was infectious, and you could feel the unity in every shout of “Let’s go!”

Down the hall, about 10 K-pop vendors showcased their love and dedication through handmade goods, custom merch, albums, and more. A special shoutout goes to our friends at Ploghvey from Knoxville, TN, who brought a fresh Southern spark to the vendor lineup. Their attention to detail and love for the community didn't go unnoticed.

Across the venue, another room buzzed with anticipation as fans lined up for exclusive fan meetings with BLACKSWAN, Hohyun, and AMPERS&ONE. For many, it was their first time getting up close with the artists they admire. Fans had the chance to exchange heartfelt messages, snap photos, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Just before the evening festivities, the final room pulsed with bass as Analisse and Michael Le of Shluv Dance Academy led high-energy dance workshops. The workshops were not just about dance, but coaching sessions for various techniques– Analisse focusing on ensuring participants are aware of their movements when learning crisp choreography, while Micheal reminded his class, “People look at your face,” calling awareness to facial expressions while performing. From rookie dancers to seasoned movers, everyone left feeling more confident—and maybe a little sweatier.

Once the convention wrapped, fans made their way to DAR Constitution Hall for a concert that sealed the night with pure magic. Pre-concert was kicked off by Lucky8 Dance Crew who had won the previously held Dance Competition. Showcasing their skilled synchronization, and sharp movements, the group performed a self-choreographed intro to the track of “Lie” before seamlessly transitioning into “Blood, Sweat, and Tears,” immediately followed by “Nightwalker.”

First up was Hohyun, who made his D.C. debut with “Better Days.” His smooth vocals and introspective lyrics immediately captivated the room. As he performed “Cast Iron” and “I Can’t Escape the Rain,” Hohyun connected with fans on a deeper level, pausing between songs to share his personal journey with ADHD and his desire to make every show and every place he is in a safe space for anyone who may be fighting a battle of mental health or more.

His vulnerability peaked during performances of “Tomorrow” and “Flawed”—both from his upcoming EP titled Petrichor (a word meaning “the pleasant smell that accompanies rain”). The crowd roared in unity as Hohyun urged them to scream the chorus of “Flawed,” leading to a powerful collective chant of “I’M SO FLAWED!!!”

To close, he brought raw emotion and unmatched energy with “Sunset Boulevard”—complete with a dramatic water toss that had fans living for every second.

Next came AMPERS&ONE, immediately kicking off with their debut track “On And On,” which had fans jumping out of their seats. Having already earned their fanbase, the group took a moment to introduce themselves, the crowd cheered with deafening screams of which Kyrell acknowledged the crowds energy, “We could feel [the energy]  We were itching to get up here.” The next stage was sure to get the crowd's heart pumping as AMPERS&ONE performed powerhouse fan-favorite “Broken Heart.” Keeping the energy alive, the group performed their latest tracks “Knock Knock” and “Kick Start.”

The group then showed off their youthful vibes with “He + She = We” and “Crazy Stupid Fun” – keeping the energy levels fresh and revitalized with the lively anthems it was already time for the group's final mentions. Making a promise to come back to D.C., and thanking the crowd for their energy, it was time to – SING “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” to Jiho!?! As the crowd sang in unison, Jiho made an attempt to runaway from the center,  but the members surrounded him. Fans then not only wished Jiho a happy birthday, but also Kamden before taking their leave. Fresh off their first U.S. tour, the seven-member group came back bolder, louder, and even more synchronized. Their bond with fans was obvious, and the energy exchange between stage and crowd was electric.

Closing out the show with an unforgettable finale was none other than BLACKSWAN, the multinational girl group that continues to redefine what it means to be bold, unapologetic, and trailblazing in K-pop.

The moment the opening beat of “Roll Up” dropped, the energy inside DAR Constitution Hall surged. Fans instantly rose to their feet as the members of BLACKSWAN emerged under the stage lights—exuding confidence, charisma, and complete command of the stage. Their fierce delivery and tight, powerful choreography in both “Roll Up” and “Karma” set the tone for what would be a showstopping final act.

After greeting D.C. with smiles and heartfelt words of appreciation, BLACKSWAN transitioned into “C’est Jamais Vue,” bringing a sultry elegance that had the crowd swaying and screaming with every vocal run. The members engaged with the audience effortlessly, creating a vibrant connection that only deepened as the set continued.

Then came “Cat & Mouse,” a performance layered with attitude and precision. The crowd echoed the chorus back with passion, proving BLACKSWAN’s global impact and loyal fanbase even on U.S. soil. Without missing a beat, they dove into “Double Down,” a track that amplified their stage presence even further. Fans could feel the bass in their chests as the group executed razor-sharp moves and harmonies that showed just how in-sync they truly are.

By the time “I Like It Hot” began, the entire venue had transformed into a sea of movement—fans dancing in the aisles, waving lightsticks, and belting lyrics with abandon. BLACKSWAN fed off that energy and gave it right back tenfold. The synergy between the performers and their audience was palpable, a shared moment that radiated joy, pride, and the pure magic of live music.

Their vocals were effortless, their transitions seamless, and their passion undeniable. Each member shined in her own right while still moving as one unit—an artistic force rooted in individuality and unity.

As their final notes rang out, BLACKSWAN stood before a roaring crowd, taking in the applause with tears glistening in some eyes and smiles on every face. The performance wasn’t just a set—it was a statement. One that said loud and clear: BLACKSWAN is here, they’re evolving, and they’re nowhere near done.

Their closing set wasn’t just a finale—it was a promise. A promise that they’ll be back. A promise that the best is still to come.
