If you’ve never heard of Singles’ Day, think of it as the world’s biggest “treat yourself” holiday. Originating in China on November 11th (11/11), a date made up of “ones” to represent individuality, it has become a day for singles to celebrate themselves through shopping sprees, gifts, and fun with friends.
In South Korea, the day is marked with sweet gestures like “pepero” day, where friends share slim, stick-shaped cookies covered in chocolate, a delicious nod to the “1” theme. Now, The Shops at Skyview is bringing that energy stateside and proudly stands as the first U.S. shopping center to host an Asian-themed Singles’ Day event.

With nearly ten million social media followers, the real showstopper is Kim Mingue, the wildly popular South Korean actor known for his roles in Business Proposal, Snowdrop, and Queen: Love & War. Fresh from completing his military service, Mingue is making his first-ever U.S. appearance at Skyview, and fans can actually meet him during an exclusive session featuring games, performances, and photo opportunities.
From glam makeovers to giving back, the afternoon lineup is packed with activities for every kind of single, and even the happily partnered.
Super Star Makeover – Sephora’s glam squad takes the stage for a live style demo, complete with a makeover for a few lucky raffle winners.
Cover Model Spotlight – Step into your main-character moment at the interactive magazine cover photobooth.
Winter Coat Drive – Donate a gently used coat to help local families in need, and maybe score a new one from Skyview retailers or one of Kim Mingue’s favorite personal items.
Lucky Bags – Grab limited-edition goodie bags starting at just $11.11, packed with surprises worth up to $200.
Singles’ Bar – Sip, snack, and socialize because being single has never looked this good.

“Hosting the only Singles’ Day event of its kind in the U.S. reflects our commitment to cultural richness and innovation,” adds Rocell Viniard, vice president of marketing and communications for Perform Properties. “We’re thrilled to blend global traditions with exciting experiences and to welcome Kim Mingue for his U.S. debut right here in New York.”
With national brands like Target, Uniqlo, Sephora, and Nike Clearance, plus local gems like Skyfoods and Everyday Beauty, The Shops at Skyview is already a go-to Queens destination. But on November 9th, it will be more than a mall. It will be the city’s most stylish celebration of self-love, culture, and connection.
So whether you’re single, it’s complicated, or just ready for a good time, grab your lucky bag, strike your best pose, and get ready to mingle—and maybe fall a little in love with yourself.
