Got a Second? 'Press Play' on In a Minute's first EP, which delivers a fresh retro sound

Among the three members of In A Minute, they have decades of experience in the K-Pop world. From being idols to producing their own music and writing for different groups, each member has their own creative training. This time, Jaejun, Juntae, and Hyunyeop combine their creative minds to produce their first EP, following their debut single in March of this year. From C-Clown to TREI to TAN, Jaejun has made a strong impression on K-Pop enthusiasts as not only an idol, but a producer, writer, and all-rounder, leaving no creative stone unturned. Juntae has years of experience as a writer and producer for various groups like Pentagon, TAN, and the duo called JT&Marcus. Hyunyeop, who trained at companies like FirstOne Entertainment, RND Company, and BigHit Music, made his debut with TAN in 2022, bringing his sweet vocals and high notes to the group. This unique amalgamation of talent sets this trio apart from most, giving them an edge no one else has.

As the first track, 'Press Play' starts this EP off with a driving beat that catches the ear instantly with an intense drumline rhythm. With this song, In A Minute introduces themselves as a group that won't back down and will press forward, no matter what the world says. The drumline is present throughout the track, adding an air akin to a marching band or a school rally. One could picture them as if they were attempting to rally themselves to approach the one they love. Light ad-libs in the post-chorus increase the playfulness of the lyrics, adding to the air of mischief. This track has a stripped-down nature that adds emphasis to the lyrics and vocals. In the final chorus, all three take turns building harmonies and adding their own color to the climax of the track. If you want a song to hype up your morning routine and get you moving, 'Press Play' is the inspiration you need.

With this album titled "[BGM: How We Rise - Play]", the title track 'How We Do' describes how the trio intends to rise in popularity and support. Juntae and Jaejun have a distinct sound when it comes to their music, and this track is no different. A forward bass line combined with prominent percussion highlights the use of acoustic guitar instead of electric sounds. The lyrics of this track proclaim that they are "sick of the love songs" and that they are going to pave their own way, no matter how long it takes. The styling for this comeback pulls from some '90s stylings with oversized jerseys and baggy jeans, lending itself to a more retro feel all around. The music video is shot in an alley with the walls being covered in graffiti and various vintage props and editing present throughout. The choreography of the track mixes sensual with hip-hop, adding flair and even a dance break, including krumping by Jaejun in the bridge. Krumping is a style of dancing to popular music, especially hip-hop, characterized by rapid, exaggerated movements of the arms and legs. The video editing adds nostalgia to the track with camera work and filters that were popular in the late '90s to early 2000s. The chorus has an anti-drop with Juntae's voice and a single bass line that instantly catches the ear to tune in further. Boasting their talents, 'How We Do' encourages listeners to make their own path if there isn't one that fits them. Watch the music video here:

Following their title track is a reprieve from the high-energy hip-hop sound, adding a comforting air to the album. '5ive' is a track that you would play with the top down or the sunroof open on a summer day. The lyrics ask those listening to give five minutes to slow down and enjoy each other's presence. It is a reminder to slow down and enjoy life because everything moves so fast these days. It's a simple love song that emphasizes falling in love naturally and not worrying about the trivial stuff. They want to hold hands and drive around, spending time together without a care in the world. This track is perfect for a late summer night with your favorite person, stargazing at the summer night sky.

As the antagonist to '5ive', 'At Dawn' is a track about lost love, so intense that the singer is begging to forget their love but is reminded of them every dawn. The backing music for this track is reminiscent of K.Will's 'Please Don't...', having an upbeat song with heartbreaking lyrics. The mid-pace beat encourages relaxed foot-tapping, while the melodic key borrows from the minor key for a melancholic sound. This unique mix of an upbeat rhythm and desperate lyrics adds to the overall emotion of the track, making the listener also want to hurry and forget the sadness. Each verse is embroiled in grief as they try, to no avail, to forget the love they no longer have, grasping at any spark that could be left. The desperation in each of the members' voices is clear as day, filling the ear with regret and longing.

Following many successful fan meetings in Southeast Asia, Korea, and Japan, In a Minute continues to show their fans, affectionately known as Innings, a unique side to the trio as they make their way together. Innings have been watching these three talented artists find their own sound and welcomed them as their own unit. Jaejun, Juntae, and Hyunyeop have thrived in their newly found home with each other and their current company, and In A Minute's first EP is bound to catch your ear and capture your heart one way or another. Whether it's the variety of melodies and lyrics or the unique vocal tones of each singer, be ready to chase after them as they steal your breath away.
