  • “BROKE MY HEART”: Kino Showcases Emotionally Raw Vulnerability and Confidence as He Reconnects with Universe in Columbus

Braving the freezing temperatures, Universe embarked on an exhilarating journey to Columbus, eagerly anticipating the long-awaited return of Kino to the U.S.! On January 25, 2025, fans braved the early morning cold as they headed to a popular local diner on N. High St known as Skully’s Music Diner. The chilly air only fueled their excitement, as they bonded over their shared passion for Kino and swapped everyday stories while waiting to enter the venue. Once inside, vibrant purple and red lights illuminated the space, as fans eagerly found their spots on the floor, buzzing with anticipation about the night's show. Some couldn't wait to hear the set list, others were thrilled to be surrounded by fellow fans, and everyone was overjoyed to finally see Kino after so many years! As the venue dimmed and the sound of a heart beating took over the sound system, everyone focused on the stage where Kino's silhouette appeared, kneeling -- ready to take fans on a journey of fun, unfiltered thoughts, and raw emotion. As the sound carried listeners through snippets of Kino's journey -- some that were known to fans, and many that were not -- one could feel the change in the air as Kino's voice in the recording shouted, " WHY AM I DOING THIS ?!?" Little did anyone know how foreshadowing this introduction would be to the night's events -- as Kino raised himself during the intro, and commenced the night by saying, “ I think I think too much ,” before smoothly transitioning into “ Broke My Heart .” His unprecedented energy filled the venue as he seamlessly transitioned into “ Everglow ” and “ Call My Name ,” songs that highlighted the artist's thoughts. He greeted Columbus with a cheerful “ O! H! ” to which the crowd replied, “ I! O! ” Kino thanked everyone for coming out -- despite the weather, smiling genuinely and with admiration in his eyes. He apologized for the delay in returning to the U.S., joking that it was his previous company’s fault, but then showed maturity by asking fans not to be upset with them and expressed his gratitude to his team at NAKED and how he was finally able to keep his promise. No one expected this upbeat atmosphere to turn into one of the most emotionally raw and intense experiences they’d ever have. Kino kicked off with his own unique vibe and now he's diving into the rest of the night with a carefully curated and highly emotionally impacted set list that highlights various points in his career. This next segment showcased the chaos of his career, a treat for the long-time fans, as he throws it back to 2017 with “ Voicegasm ,” and then cranks up the energy with “ Cerberus .” Showcasing his growth as an artist, Kino owned the stage, making sure to connect with fans all over the place. He leaned into the crowd, really getting everyone pumped, showing a confidence that one discovers from self-reflection. Taking a moment to chat with the fans about the set, one shouted, “ CAN YOU PUT VOICEGASM ON APPLE MUSIC?!? ” This got a good laugh from everyone, including Kino, who then asked, “ Who here has Apple Music? Who here has Spotify ?” Seeing most folks showing their Spotify love, Kino joked, “Can I put VOICEGASM on Spotify, instead ?” With a smile that lit up the room, Kino was all set for his next act. With a request for attendees to remain in their space, Kino made his way through the respectful crowd to the back of the venue, hopping on the bar, as he started his exploration segment with “ Valentine .” Looking around with admiration at both Universe and new fans, Kino grabbed his phone, recording everyone singing and swaying along. Then he jumped down and casually headed back to the stage. Prepared to elevate the energy, Kino transitions into the next part of his expertly curated set list, featuring fan favorites such as " Tell Me What You Want " and " Pose ," before taking the venue's energy for a spin. As the newly set stage greeted Kino with a single spotlight and keyboard, Kino began to pour his very soul into every note of the next stage. The weight of this turning point filled the venue—shattering hearts and bringing tears to others—as Kino sang " Skyfall ." While this next segment did not need an introduction, Kino's desire to share his story with fans drove the moment as one fan responded to Kino that he made her sob. This interaction took attendees on a roller coaster of emotions in such a short amount of time. In these few short minutes, Kino's face lit up as he learned the meaning of the word 'sob,' teasing fans as he expressed his curiosity about whether or not it was a real word, or a " Gen Z thing, like rizz ?" The quick transition from this lighthearted moment into the next song's introduction was one that fans were unsure of how to respond to. With typical " ahhh " and " oooh " and encouragements from the crowd, Kino introduced the next segment in the most human way imaginable—with an admission of fear and regret, followed by an introduction for the next song—one that was born from regret. Regret from not appreciating the fans' love and assuring fans that he would not do that ever again before being highlighted with the solo spotlight once more as a more genuine and heartfelt question began a beautiful jazz rendition of " Do I Deserve It " as each note carried his heartfelt admiration for Universe. With regret also comes the moment of overcoming these events that caused the heaviness in one's heart—which Kino introduced with, " Hey, I am human. I told you I get scared, and I get sad. I sob. I fear failing, but you know what? I regret and I overcome ." Commencing this part with " Nostalgia " and " Sparkling Night ," Kino was caught showcasing fans as they sang along by placing the mic in front of them. Keeping the energy light, Kino finally burst into a more carefree choreography highlighted by a beaming smile and look of admiration as he continued into " Solo " and " Freaky Love ." Taking a moment to jokingly call fans out for not dancing with him, Kino was ready to show fans the choreography so they could dance along—where one fan shouted, " I GOT THIS! " Inviting the fan onto the stage to teach the choreography brought another beaming reaction from Kino, as she motioned for him to step aside with a simple, " I got this shit. Oops, sorry ." before teaching the choreography. After a small slip-up in choreography, she apologized, to which Kino responded, " Oh shit! It's okay ," generating a genuine room-filling laugh from himself and attendees. Upon learning the choreography, Kino invited the fan to remain on stage and dance with him, to which she happily obliged. It was time to shift into a period of joy as Kino delivered fan favorites, " How it Was ," " Dancing on the Road ," and " Fashion Style ," before leaving the stage to get ready for the final encore performances. As his journey aligns with the present, it is time for the show to move towards a conclusion as Kino returns for an encore performance of fan favorites, " Shine ," and " Spring Snow ," with fans singing along to every word. As he carries on his ending mentions, Kino continues to boldly express his unfiltered emotions by telling attendees that they are, " so fucking crazy. You guys make me happy. You guys make me sob. You guys make me crazy. How can I live without you? " As fans encourage Kino to just stay in Columbus by offering to buy him a house enough for Kino and his bandmate, he asked if he would be able to bring Michael and his NAKED team, too -- to which everyone shouted in agreement. This generated another beam of excitement as Kino exclaimed, " NAKED! We have another office in Columbus ," before the crowd serenaded him with a beautiful and harmonious version of “ Happy Birthday ,” just a few short hours ahead of his birthday (KST). Generating a slightly bashful, but undeniably grateful aura from Kino as he initiated another, “ O! H! ,” “ I! O! ,” call and response before taking his spot near the edge of the stage for a photo to commemorate the night. Next, it was time for the most heartfelt performance of the night with an unreleased song that speaks Kino's mind the most. Once again, with a solo spotlight on him, Kino began to share his innermost feelings and thoughts, and he began to perform his unreleased track, " Back In Time. " Beginning with a light instrumental riff, the emotions of gratitude began to seep their way out as Kino threw his head back before a tear began to fall. Quickly wiping it away and composing himself, Kino was able to carry on and successfully make it to the bridge of the song, Kino was visibly seen fighting back the tears that wished to flow freely a few times. Entering the chorus, the weight of the lyrics and his own emotions finally overcame him as Kino -- unable to hold himself back -- shed a tear and belted out, " Can you take us back in time?! " Initiating an acapella call and response that the crowd carried on their own as he took a moment to allow his emotions to flow, facing the back of the stage in an attempt to once more gather himself before making his next attempt to face the crowd -- unable to sing and still allowing his emotions to flow -- Kino stood for just a moment fighting -- and losing -- shedding tears -- momentarily frozen in place -- head in hand -- as the cheers and acapella voices of the crowd continued to carry throughout the venue. Finally able to continue, with tears still flowing, Kino completed the stage with a look of longing towards the fans, and short reassurances that he was okay. After such a heart-wrenching performance, he expressed gratitude to the fans for their presence, thanked each band member, acknowledged his team at NAKED , and embraced them all. As he bid farewell with a powerful " O! H! ", the crowd responded even more passionately with " I! O! ", leaving no dry eye as everyone departed. • YB and Xdinary Heroes Unite for a Powerful Anthem of "Rebellion"

This past summer, Yoon Dohyun of the South Korean rock band YB was featured on a pre-release single from Xdinary Heroes , lending his amazing screaming vocals to their track titled " iNSTEAD !”. Now they are back with Dohyun’s entire band to be featured on a heavy metal track that encourages people to break the chains that hold them back. YB , a prominent name in the South Korean music landscape, has been a formidable force since its inception in 1996. Over the years, the band has established itself as one of the leading heavy metal acts in the country, consistently pushing the boundaries of the genre while remaining deeply rooted in the vibrant rock scene of South Korea. The band's music is a rich tapestry woven from various influences, prominently featuring the powerful riffs and melodic structures characteristic of classic rock. YB incorporates elements of modern rock, which not only enhances their sound but also makes it resonate with a contemporary audience. This fusion of styles is further enriched by a unique Korean cultural identity that flows through their lyrics and musical themes, allowing them to connect with fans on a deeper level. YB is widely celebrated for their explosive and dynamic live performances. Each concert is a testament to their energy and passion, as they engage audiences with an electrifying stage presence that captivates both long-time fans and newcomers alike. The band's ability to create an immersive experience is complemented by their resonant directness in vocal style, which is characterized by powerful delivery and emotional depth. Their songwriting is marked by a distinctive approach that often reflects personal experiences and societal issues, resonating with listeners through its authenticity and relatability. “ Rebellion ” doesn’t have any hidden meanings within the lyrics, it’s about rebelling against the status quo to find the freedom that people need to live their lives as they want. There is an epic intro with heavy guitars and double kick drums that lasts nearly a minute, then Dohyun enters with his harsh vocals, followed by a chorus of voices from the members of Xdinary Heroes. They lament how they don’t want to hear the soulless music anymore and how they can’t stay silent anymore. They encourage others who might be sick of the way things are to not run away, but instead to shine brighter and rise to rebel against their oppressors to change things. The music video has the band set in a dark room with minimal light, switching to a classroom setting with students at their desks. As the intro plays through, the band themselves are rocking out to the instrumental, playing and head banging at the same time. The members of Xdinary Heroes, Gunil, Jungsu, O.de, Gaon, Junhan, and Jooyeon, all can be seen at desks with the other students, robotically mouthing their parts in the track. When the chorus hits, it slows the rhythm of the song slightly to enhance the power of the call to arms so to speak. Then there is another intense instrumental that builds the tension and angst before entering a broken-down bridge where Dohyun speaks about breaking chains that held them back and entering a freedom that can be found in rebellion. The slower chorus is repeated before ending with another hyped instrumental that causes the entire class to start headbanging in unison. True to the heavy metal/rock form with harsh vocals and instrumentals helping to drive their point home, YB and Xdinary Heroes successfully brought their unique talents together in a track that will get even the most docile person tapping their toes at the least to their rhythmic instrumentals.

  • IVE Shows Some “Attitude” With Their Newest EP

Since their viral debut, IVE has been one of the top girl groups in the K-Pop world with instantly viral title tracks and TikTok challenges. Their discography is versatile and collectively unique to create a recognizable sound that their fans, DIVE, have grown to love. Their angelic vocals mixed with catchy beats that make everyone want to dance give IVE the power to entrance their listeners. This new EP has a similar sound to their last album ‘Switch’ with tracks that are similar to “ Heya ” and ‘ Accendio ” that have a heavier electric guitar presence. The album has an almost Avril Lavigne sound to the more upbeat tracks. “ Rebel Heart ” was the pre-release track for this newest installment in IVE’s discography and it lends itself to being an anthem for the outcasts. The lyrics are a message to the people who criticize IVE that they can do or say whatever they want, but it won’t phase them. The lyrics then turn towards the listener, inviting them to come along with them to be rebels in their hearts together. Wonyoung’s pre-chorus lyrics push aside the words of people who have nothing better to do than hate them because those people would never be her and understand what she has gone through. The music video has all the members in different situations, showing a progression of what they did to help themselves. The lyrics and MV climax with the last chorus changing to an invitation for the listener to join them in their rebellion for putting themselves before what everyone else thinks of them. This track has an easy-listening, but driving quality that can either be comforting or empowering depending on the mood. The next track is titled “Flu” and it very clearly describes someone who is toxic and makes them feel sick, but this person is intoxicating to them. They keep hoping that it is all in their head and that this person will change, but as the lyrics progress, they realize that there is only sickness with this person. Liz’s flawless falsetto is heavily present in each post-chorus. She sings of coughing all night but is still dreams of this person, not caring that she is getting sick because of them. This track has an overall feel of intoxication from infatuation. They know this person is bad for them, but they keep thinking about them and returning to them. The third track on this album starts with Wonyoung comforting the listener saying she will stay with them if they feel like they want to cry. The instrumental has a slight rock- ballad sound with a moderate electric guitar presence that is stable throughout. There is a filter over Wonyoung’s intro that gives a punk-alternative feel, similar to Hilary Duff or early Demi Lovato. The track continues the support for the listener saying the members will be there to hold them in their sadness and that it is ok to cry. The lyrics reiterate that who listened to the song is not alone and they will get through it together. Track no. 4 is called “Thank U” and it starts with a playful beat as Gaeul asks, “Do you sometimes feel empty?”, while reminiscing in memory with this person. The memory seems painful as the lyrics describe the one singing being left behind to sort through their pain alone. The instrumental for this track is stripped down to a steady beat and the steady harmony of a keyboard, making the vocals more prominent and powerful. Yujin and Liz take the chorus to thank themselves who went through that pain. They thank them because it made them who they are today and they wouldn’t be the same without that experience. Rei ends the song, singing in English, thanking herself for the pain, the trust and the growth. The lyrics of this song are empowering the listener to work through their pain and not wallow in it. To keep going and become a stronger, better version of yourself. For the title track, the intro starts with a sample of a melody from “Tom’s Diner”, also from a song more well known to the current generation, “Centuries” by Fall Out Boy. the MV starts the members in an office setting, with long lines and business suits peppered throughout the building. Throughout the song, each of the members seems to be going against the status quo and doing their own thing as the lyrics describe them creating their own ‘attitude’ and who they want to be. High notes flow like honey throughout the pre-chorus and the outro, adding an angelic sound to the title. As the members dance, they each show their own form of attitude in their individual scenes. The final track on this mini album takes a different turn than the previous entries, starting with an edgier rap sound from Yujin and Rei warning someone to watch out so they don’t get bit. With a name like “TKO”, the lyrics are riddled with common boxing phrases and advice, like tucking your chin and Muhammed Ali’s famous quite “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee”. Gaeul’s pre-chorus sounds dark and threatening with talk- singing/rap in the lower register, which is opposite of Yujin and Leeso’s higher, more melodic chorus. The slightly threatening feel of the lyrics can be traced throughout the track as the members continue to warn the listener that they are “total knock outs” and that they should not be messed with. This entire album feels like a solid IVE album with many of the elements they have consistently brought to the table since their debut. Their lyrics range from empowering to reminiscent to vaguely threatening with a touch of “attitude” in each of the tracks. They added a pop-punk sound to a few of the tracks thatfelt refreshing and nostalgic, adding to the depth of the album as a whole. ‘Empathy’ is another fantastic entry from IVE, combining self-empowerment and taking care of yourself. Give it a listen #SoundLovers and let us know which track is your favorite in the comments below!

  • Meet The Artist: “Experimental Singer-Songwriter” Sofia Gillani, Unveils Her New Platonic Love Song, “Read Your Mind”

Welcome Back #SoundLovers! K Fuse had the pleasure of conversing with Sofia Gillani , an experimental singer-songwriter, ahead of the release of her new single “ Read your mind ,” a fun song about platonic love, and more about her musical journey and influences.  Sofia Gillani had an interest in music from an early age and her starring as a lead in the musical Evita  as a child officially sparked her passion for performing. Over the years, she has been avidly pursuing a career in music by independently writing, producing, self-promoting and even directing her own music videos! Check out our exclusive interview with Sofia Gillani below to learn more about her musical journey and her new single, “ Read your mind .”  K FUSE:  For our readers who are meeting you for the first time, please introduce yourself.  Sofia Gillani:   Hi!! I'm Sofia Gillani, an experimental singer songwriter who has released a number of original songs ranging from R&B to pop to even rap!  K FUSE: Can you share when you first knew you wanted to pursue music? Sofia Gillani:   I have always been quite a vocal person - growing up around instruments and a musical dad has generally led me to feel free to express myself! I remember my first performance very vivdly - a talent show, when I was in primary school was my first real recognition of me wanting to release original music, and with the support system around me, it's been fun! K FUSE:  You’ve described yourself as an “experimental avant-garde pop artist.” Is there one genre that you feel specifically drawn to recently?  Sofia Gillani: Definitely garage - my new single coming out - 'Read your mind' definitely has garage and pop fused into it, maybe from a PinkPanthress obsession recently haha! But some of the stuff I'm working on now also has a bit of drill in it, which is pretty cool to experiment with! K FUSE: You’ve definitely crafted your own sound that is uniquely Sofia Gillani, but would you say there are any music artists that have inspired or influenced you in some way?  Sofia Gillani:  I have had many inspirations, but if I had to choose my inspirations of the moment - I'd have to say Victoria Monet, Ariana Grande, and Chlöe - their deep and rich production is something I want to explore in my own music. K FUSE: Who would you most desire to collaborate with if given the opportunity and why? Sofia Gillani: Absolutely Ariana Grande - She's so in sync with music, channelling her personality and flare into her albums. She's also quite experimental - with a lot of R&B in her albums 'Sweetener' and 'Positions'. K FUSE: Do you have any rituals ahead of performing?  Sofia Gillani:   Warming up, I like to drink a green tea before every interview - It's a drink that has never steered me wrong. K FUSE: Is there a story behind your new single “Read Your Mind?” Or can you share something from the creative process? “‘ Read Your Mind ' is about a more social side of me, where I often just wanted to know what people were thinking, not because of fear of judgement, but because I was so curious about how people had such different personalities from each other but were able to connect.” Sofia Gillani: It explores platonic love in my life, and me reflecting on how different people are and how it's impossible to 'read' everyone's mind! I love my friends very deeply and love making emotionally vulnerable connections (as a cancer, duh) and this song is part of my lived experiences. K FUSE:  What can listeners expect from “Read Your Mind?” “I believe platonic love is so incredibly strong, so this song was mainly about me building relationships that are so dear to me and navigating different people - even with the trials and tribulations that come with it. I feel like platonic love is not talked enough about, and this fun garage beat makes this song so relatable as the highs and lows of close friendship experiences is one that makes us very emotionally vulnerable.” Sofia Gillani: Something fun and more chill than my other songs, that you could play to decompress - it's definitely one of my favorites, so I hope it will be one of theirs! K FUSE: What’s on your personal recently played playlist?   Sofia Gillani: Some songs that really stand out are 'Glowing' by Alayna, 'Love Again' by Alex Isley, 'Surprise' by Chlöe and 'Stranger' by Hailey Knoxx. K FUSE: What can fans look forward to in 2025?  Sofia Gillani:   Definitely more releases, but also more gigs around the country - stay tuned on my ig - sofia.aneesa.gillani. K FUSE:  Lastly, do you have anything you’d like to share with our K Fuse readers (#SoundLovers)? Sofia Gillani:   If you need something new and refreshing to listen to - I'd recommend Sofia Gillani! I'd love for you to join my journey! Sofia Gillani ’s new single “Read Your Mind” releases on February 28.
